William Edgar Harris

Born at home in Hempstead County, and delivered by Dr. Dildy, Sr. to Eddie and Erna Harris on August 5, 1936 was William Edgar Harris. Known to his family and friends as Bill Harris, he lived his life helping and serving others. After acquiring his Bachelorâ�™s degree from Hendrix College and a Masterâ�™s degree from Henderson State University, Mr. Harris managed hotels and restaurants, served as a minister, an English teacher, and finally began his career with the Department of Human Services. After approximately 30 years of service, Mr. Harris retired as Department of Human Services County Administrator for Hempstead County due to health related issues. Mr. Harris enjoyed reading, gardening, making home improvements, and spending time with family and friends as well as helping anyone who called upon him. After a lengthy battle with his illness, Mr. Harris passed away at 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at his home near Ozan. He is survived by two siblings, Shirley Ray Harris of Ozan and Linda Barnes of Little Rock. He leaves behind his five children, Jan Harris of Ozan, Mike Harris of Tyler, Texas, Phillip Harris â�" deceased, Amy McClane of Hope, and Marc Harris of Ozan. Mr. Harris also leaves behind his twelve wonderful grandchildren and seven precious great-grandchildren, Allen and Erin Adams of DeQueen, William Adams of Saratoga, Logan, Lance, Lucas, and Lewis Harris of Ozan, Elizabeth, Blake, and Brooke Faulkner of Emmet, Nikki Harris of Nashville, Lauren Jones of Colorado, Abigail Adams of DeQueen, Jake Allen of DeQueen, Aiden and Emily Frantz of Saratoga, Jordan Harris of Colorado, and Preston and Austin Jones of Colorado. Mr. Harris was also an uncle to Rita and Monty Harris of Ozan and Jamie, Kyle, and Cody Quinonez of Ozan. Mr. Harris taught his children and lived his life on the premise of do no harm to anyone and to treat others as you would want to be treated yourself. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, as well as a civil servant and community leader and will be surely missed. Private services will be held at a later date.
