Travis Fred Gilmer, 85, of Murfreesboro, AR, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019. He was born in Boto, AR on February 7, 1934, to Jesse and May Harrison Gilmer. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters - Amy Gilmer Sims and Julie Gilmer Griffith; five sisters and four brothers-in-law - Jessie and Jr Watkins, Loyce and Foy Stark, Floyce and Earl Jones, Linda Sue and Don Jones and Glinda Gilmer; and one brother - Harrison Gilmer. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Gilmer; son, Tony Gilmer and wife, Marisol; son, Ryan Gilmer and wife Heather; and step-daughters, Christi Tidwell and Traci Teel and husband, Clifton; grandchildren Reese Griffith and Rachel Griffith Engel and husband, Isaiah; Travis and Michael Gilmer; Kyrsten, Kelyn and Tatum Gilmer; and step-grandchildren Bailey and Brady Eaton; Maci, Georgia, and Sophia Davis; sister, Sherry Gilmer Umphress; sister-in-law, Mary Hill Gilmer; former wife and good friend, Carol Gilmer Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews. Travis graduated from Murfreesboro High School in 1952. He spent six years in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. Once he returned to Murfreesboro in the late 1960's he was employed by several companies as their ‘go to' mechanic. He was also a farmer, avid fisherman and hunter and loved to read, especially Louis L'Amour westerns. Travis was a believer in Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord and knew his family would meet him at the Pearly Gates in God's good time. Travis had an amazing gift for story telling, a truly special sense of humor and loved to play a good joke on family and friends. A special ‘thank you' to the ICU staff at CHI St Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs, AR, who took such wonderful and loving care of Travis for three weeks. Appreciation and gratitude to his many doctors and also to the hospice staff who cared for him the night before he joined our Heavenly Father. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 1, 2019, at 12:00 at First Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, AR; with Bro. Charlie Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery. He was a loving father and grandfather, a devoted son, brother and uncle and a caring friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
