Thomas Maurice â�œSonnyâ Jones, 87, of Murfreesboro, AR; died Monday, July 23, 2012 in Texarkana, Texas. He was born August 30, 1924 in Langley, AR, the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Carrie Risner Jones. Mr. Jones was a long standing member of the First Christian Church in Murfreesboro, where he served as a deacon and treasurer for over twenty years. Sonny loved music, and enjoyed playing the harmonica in the Home Town Boys band. As a young man, Mr. Jones worked for the Corp of Engineers and helped build Narrows Dam at Lake Greason; he was the last man that the Corp kept at the dam to inspect the equipment. Following the completion of the dam, he and Lois moved to Gary, Indiana where he worked for the Budd Company for thirty-one years. Upon retirement they moved back to Murfreesboro in 1981, to enjoy their golden years. Sonny loved football, and he followed the Rattlers and the Razorbacks wherever they were playing. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by two brothers, Carlos and Doyle Jones, four sisters Inez Jones Atkins, Ruby Jones Evans, Mable Jones Epperson, and dulene Jones Hargus Mizzelle. Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years Lois Cornish Jones of Murfreesboro, AR; a son Thomas William Jones of Deltona, FL; a daughter Robbie Jean and her husband Clifton Alan Anderson of Johnson City, TN; one grandson Casey Jones Anderson of Chattanoga, TN; two sisters, Estel Jones Bethard of DeRidder, LA, and Billie Jones of Tallahassee, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was much beloved by all and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 26, at the First Christian Church in Murfreesboro, with Rob Evans, Bob James, and Rick Green officiating, burial will follow in Kelly Cemetery, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home in Murfreesboro.
