Thomas F. Garner, 88, of Nashville, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 in Nashville. He was born on December 9, 1925 in Nashville, the son of the late Andrew Clyde Garner and Bertha (Arnold) Garner. After graduating from Nashville High School, he attended A & M College (SAU) prior to entering the navy. He was a navy veteran of WWII. He returned from the navy to the employment of Texarkana Federal Correctional Institution until retirement. While there he received an award in Washington, DC at the Department of Justice for the distinguished service of over 25 years as a senior correctional officer, from the director of Federal Bureau of Prisons in Washington, DC at the Washington DC office. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe A. Garner, Julius Garner, and William E. Garner, 2 infant brothers, and one sister, Mary Ann Farley. Survivors include his wife Dorothy Norwood Garner of Nashville; 2 daughters, Kathryn McFarland and husband, Larry of Greenwood, Indiana, and Laura Carlton and husband, Joe of Nashville; 4 grandchildren, Thomas Higginbotham of San Antonio, TX, Jennifer Hunt, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Michael Carlton of Texarkana, AR, and Dana Carlton of Nashville, AR; 16 Great grandchildren; and one sister, Kathryn Green of Springfield, MO. A host of other relatives and friends mourn his passing. Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Ozan Cemetery in Bingen, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home.
