Sylvia Toy Lovil Ellis Laurent, age 79, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012, after a long and courageous battle with congestive heart failure. She was born November 30, 1932, near Lockesburg, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Charlie G. and Ova Toy Ramsey Lovil. She was a lifelong educator, teaching English and Spanish in Murfreesboro, Delight, and Nashville schools. After moving to California in the 1970�s, Mrs. Laurent taught 6th graders in a private Christian school in Montebello. Upon retirement, she and her husband returned to Arkansas where she served as a member of the Murfreesboro school board. Her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, flowers, fruit trees, and her travels delighted Sylvia. Firm in her faith, she was a devout member of the First Christian Church of Murfreesboro, where she was a choir member. Mrs. Laurent was preceded in the death by her four brothers: John Lovil, Earl Lovil, Denzil Lovil, and Charles Lovil as well as her two sisters. Bonnie Lovil Ellis. and Rachel Lovil Proctor. She is survived by her husband Bervin Leon Laurent of Murfreesboro, AR; son John Ellis and wife Paula of Longview, TX; daughter Diane Thomasson of Little Rock, AR; grandchildren Scott Morrison of Tyler, TX; Katie Wilson and husband Derrick of Austin, TX; Andrew Ellis of Tyler, TX; Rita Moore and husband Matt of Chicago, IL; Claire Thomasson of Little Rock, AR; Staci Thomasson of Memphis, TN; and Whitney Thomasson of Little Rock, AR; and one great-grandchild Olivia Moore of Chicago, IL; a number of nephews, nieces and a host of friends and church family. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 11th at 2:00pm at the First Christian Church in Murfreesboro, with burial to follow at College Hill Cemetery near Murfreesboro, AR under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, AR.
