Mary Alene Sims, age 94 of Nashville, Arkansas, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born on July 19, 1929 in Nashville to the late James Edgar Ray and Dovie Lesta Tabscott Ray.
Alene was a lifelong Christian and was a member of the Sunset Church of Christ. She had the opportunity to teach Bible Class and served as church secretary. Alene was a member of the 1948 class of Nashville High School. She was a cheerleader and active on the basketball team. Later in her life, she was a member of the Garden Club and Red Hats. She enjoyed spending time with her family, as well.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of thirty years, James Walter Woodruff; her second husband Cliff Sims; a granddaughter Leslie Rae Turley Teglia; six siblings Charlene Ray Lane, Hansel Ray, Duel Ray, J.E. Ray, Luther “Nig” Ray and Margie Young.
Survivors include her two daughters Sherry Baxley and husband Karon and Janice Womack and husband Watson; her son David Woodruff and wife Libby; one sister Pat Newman; eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Latimer Funeral Home in Nashville
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023 in the Latimer Funeral Chapel in Nashville with Karon Baxley and David Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park, under the of Latimer Funeral Home of Nashville.
