Mary Lorene Arrington

Mary Lorene Walker Arrington, 91, formerly of Nashville, passed away peacefully on May 11 in Jefferson City, Tennessee. She was born April 25, 1920, in West Fork, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Gideon White Walker and Mamie Stockburger Walker. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Gene Arrington, long-time director of the University of Arkansas Peach Experiment Station in Nashville. Mary was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Juanita Walker Yowell and William Yowell, of Magnolia, by their long-time best friends Grace and Cecil Bittle of Hope, Arkansas, and by neighbors RC and Elsie Vaughn. Mary and Gene treasured their years in Nashville because of the many lasting friendships they developed in the community. Mary is survived by two sons, Dr. Robert Arrington and wife, Mary Kate Arrington, of Little Rock, and Dr. Michael Arrington and wife, Pamela Norwood Arrington, of Talbott, Tennessee. She is also survived by five loving grandchildren: Kelly Rackley (Scott) of Uganda, Africa; Kathy Christiansen (Ron) of East Troy Wisconsin; Ashley Norwood Ellington (Kent) of Rome, Georgia; Jonathan Arrington, of Chicago, Illinois; and Lydia Arrington of Waco, Texas. Mary also is survived by 14 great-grandchildren. Mary and Gene were members of First Baptist Church of Nashville. They were also involved in numerous community organizations and activities in Nashville. Mary was employed for many years at Nashville Basket Company and at Clear Creek Tie and Lumber Company in Nashville. Funeral services are scheduled at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 17, at First Baptist Church of Nashville, Arkansas, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home. Dr. David Blasé, Pastor of First Baptist Church, Nashville, will conduct the service. She will be buried at Baptist Ford Cemetery near West Fork, Arkansas. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Latimer Funeral Home on Monday, May 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Nashville, Arkansas, or to the Nashville Rotary Club.
