Lynwood E. (Lynn) Matheny taught his last lesson and went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, November 23, 2011. Lynn was born in Bastrop, LA on January 8, 1935. He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Lynn was preceded in death by three brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Tina; four daughters and sons-in-laws: Tammy and Kevin Smith, Lisa and John Wesson, Tracy and David Lamb, and Lori and Ed Williams, as well as one brother, W.M. Matheny of Bastrop, LA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; Michael (Ashley) Lamb, Matthew Lamb, Justin Smith, Hannah (Aaron) Chancellor, Holly (Andy) White, Jacob (Rachel) Wesson, Clay Williams, Andrew Williams, and Abby Williams, as well as three great-grandchildren. He faithfully preached the Gospel for congregations in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, and was the minister for the Lockesburg Church of Christ at the time of his death. He first moved to Nashville in 1974; and although he lived in many other locations he always considered his hand built cabin on the creek to be his home. Lynn preached thousands of sermons from a multitude of pulpits. However, his greatest lessons were seen in the way he served and trusted God, how he loved his family, and the way he cared for those around him. Psalms 119:33 â" Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes, and I shall keep it to the end. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Sunset Church of Christ in Nashville with Bro. Marvin Weir officiating. Burial will follow in Restland Memorial Park in Nashville, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home of Nashville.
