Leona G. Mitchell, 90, of Hot Springs, formerly of Murfreesboro, died Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at a Hot Springs hospital. She was born August 20, 1920, at Murfreesboro, AR, the daughter of the late Emmett and Julia Harrison Barnes. She was a member of Murfreesboro Church of Christ. She was a seamstress, enjoyed baking pies and was a nurseâ�™s aide at Pike County Hospital for 32 years. On her birthday of this year Mayor Jim ONeal presented her with a plaque designating this day each year as Leona Mitchell Day in Murfreesboro. Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Mitchell; three brothers, Clyde Barnes, Noba Barnes, Jeff Barnes and one sister, Adell Jackson. She is survived by two daughters, Donnie Campbell of Benton, AR and Vickie Walters of Hot Springs, AR; three grandchildren, Christie Nance, Glen Lovewell and Jullia Dwyer, seven great-grandchildren, Jaymie Nance, Heather Lovewell, Brittany Dixon, Devin Dixon, Stormy cox, Coty Dwyer, Britani Ann Dwyer, one great-great granddaughter, Nicole Bonilla and a host of friends. Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Friday, December 24, at Murfreesboro Church of Christ with Tommy Mounts officiating, burial in Murfreesboro Cemetery, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Murfreesboro.
