John Homer Funderburk

John Homer Funderburk, 91, passed away on Monday September 21, 2009, in Manteca. He was born in Keota, OK on April 29, 1918, as the only living child of the last Sloman L. Funderburk and Maud (Finch) Funderburk. He is survived by his children, Joy Funderburk of Manteca, Gary Widener and wife, Deborah, of Lodi; grandchildren Latitia Wells, John Wells, Gayle Wells, Marc Widener, Jenn Widener; 8 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild. John is preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years, Geneva Tommie Funderburk, and his second wife of 27 years, Lorene Funderburk; He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Sylven McBroom, Mable Corbell, Helen Bishop, Dale Funderburk, S.L. Funderburk and twin brother, Omer Funderburk. John was known as a bubbly, very friendly person, He was a very loyal individual with a great smile, who enjoyed helping other, and was very generous in his ways. His firm handshakes often helped him sense people�s personalities. He loved to cook, especially when it came to potlucks and making his chili beans. John enjoyed woodworking crafts golfing, camping, fishing bowling and anything that involved the outdoors. He also owned and operated Fundy�s Drive-in from the early 1969�s to mid 1970�s in Manteca. He would travel to visit his family in Arkansas and Missouri. A man of faith, he was a member of Northside Church of Christ; where he served as a church greeter with that friendly smile of his. He was a lifetime member of the Carpenter Union Local 25. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Thursday, at Sunshine Cemetery; under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Nashville.
