John Paul Cornish

John Paul Cornish, 89 of Murfreesboro, Arkansas passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was born on August 20, 1927 in Nathan, Arkansas the son of the late Ben William and Myrtle Lola Floyd Cornish. Mr. Cornish was an Elder at the Murfreesboro Church of Christ, He was the owner and operator of Cornish's Auto Repair Shop for over thirty years. After he retired he served as the Pike County Tax Accessor for ten years. Mr. Cornish was a retired volunteer fire chief for the Murfreesboro Volunteer Fire Department. He also served many years on the Murfreesboro City Council and helped build Narrow's Dam. He was preceded in death by his sister Bonnie Giroux. Survivors include his wife of seventy years Jacqueline "Jackie" Bradford Cornish of Murfreesboro, AR; three daughters Paulette Ellis of Murfreesboro, AR; Jo Ann Stevens and husband Stevie of Nathan, AR; and Donna Lane of Murfreesboro, AR; two sisters Mary Jo Woods of Texarkana, AR; and Lois Jones of Murfreesboro, AR; eight grandchildren Melissa Rather and husband Tony, Amanda Jackson, Shelley Pierce and husband Chad, Sheryl Turner and husband Darwin, Jennifer Stevens, Benjamin Stevens and wife Breanna, Lacey Lane and Christopher Lane, ten great grandchildren, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, October 14, at the Latimer Funeral Home Chapel in Murfreesboro. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, October 15 at the Murfreesboro Church of Christ with Tommy Mounts officiating, burial will follow in Murfreesboro Cemetery, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home in Murfreesboro.
