James Weldon (Jimmy) Jones, age 99, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2022 in Fayetteville, AR. He was born on October 17, 1922 in Nashville, AR to Ellis Lonzo and Annie Lee Denson Jones.
Jimmy, or Weldon as he was known in Nashville, is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 72 years Verdell “Pettie” Jones, infant daughter Connie Lynn Jones, brother Robert Jones (Louise) and sister Elease Rosson (Leonard).
He is survived by his children Retta Nutt (Bud) of Texarkana, TX, Rick Jones (Dorothy) of Hot Springs Village, AR, and Pam Warren (Randy) of Prairie Grove, AR; grandchildren John Nutt (Kelly) of Texarkana, TX, Jim Warren (Alyson) of Denver, CO, Leigh Thompson (Kevin) of Farmington, AR, Brandey Burnett (Kevin) of Sherwood, AR, Missy Tulose (Brian) of Paris, TX, and Kerry Murphy (Paul) of North Little Rock, AR; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
He served in the US Army Medical Detail 319th Infantry during World War II. He was a driver for Continental Trailways until his retirement and then pursued his passion for selling cars.
A graveside service is planned for Monday, March 7, 2022 at Unity Cemetery in Nashville, AR under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be from 9 to 10 am Monday at Latimer Funeral Home with graveside service following.
The family would like to thank The Langford of Fayetteville and Circle of Life Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care of Jimmy.
