Jackie Carolyn Coleman Harwell, age 86, of Nashville, Arkansas, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2024 in Murfreesboro. She was born November 13, 1938 at Muddy Fork Arkansas, the daughter of the late John Coleman and Merle White Coleman.
She was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church, a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star of Arkansas. She worked at the Roytex garment plant and several local businesses in Nashville. She was also a long time member of the Nashville City Council. She enjoyed doing ceramics which later turned into making porcelain dolls and sculptures, crocheting, knitting and sewing.
She attended Okay Elementary School and graduated from Dierks High School and was a graduate of Henderson State University where she earned a degree in Elementary Education and earned a Master’s degree in English. She also trained and became a Certified Reading Specialist.
She begins her teaching career at Mineral Springs Elementary School, she taught at the Cossatot Leaning Center at Tyson’s Food where she helped numerous people receive their GED’s. She was the AIM Director for Cossatot College until 2006.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Harwell; a sister, Annie Dale Powell, half-brother, Carlton Coleman, two half sisters, Elizabeth Hodge and Doris Cowling; brother-in-law, John H. Lawrence; and a nephew, James Tollett.
Survivors include her son, Jerry Harwell and wife, Donna of Nashville; a granddaughter, Kira Staten and husband, Michael and a grandson, Heath Harwell; one great grandson, Cayden Staten and two great granddaughters, Lilli Harwell and Emmalyn Staten; one brother, Roy Coleman and wife, Barbara and one sister, Henriellen Lawrence, all of Dierks; three nephews, Tony Coleman (Judy) of Branson, Missouri, John M. Lawrence (Ashley) of Greenbrier, David Tollett (Mary) of Flordia; great nieces, Elizabeth Coleman, Madison Lawrence and Ila Lawrence and great nephew, Jacob Coleman; as well as a number of friends and extended family.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2025 at Latimer Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2025 at Latimer Funeral Home in Nashville. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home.
