Herman Dale Jones

Herman Dale Jones, 84 of Mt. Pleasant, TX, formerly of Nashville, died Monday, July 20, 2009 in Mt. Pleasant, TX. He was born on February 15, 1925 in Howard County, AR, the son of the late Richard E. and Ora Cornish Jones. He was a retired local manager for SWEPCO, having served in offices in Texarkana, DeQueen, Ashdown, Waldron, Mena and Nashville during his 42 year career with the company. In all of these communities he was very active in civic and church activities. In the churches he attended he served as deacon, teacher, treasurer, choir member and everyoneâ�™s favorite brotherhood breakfast chef. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Nashville, AR and Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Mena, AR. As a member of the Lions Club he held leadership positions at both local and state levels which lead to participation in national and international events. He also left a legacy of improved services for the disabled in every community in which he lived. He helped establish chapters of The ARC, worked to secure public school services for special needs children and served on the boards of both the Howard County Childrenâ�™s Center and the Polk County Day Service Center. He was a WWII Marine veteran whose tour of duty included the Marshall Islands and Okinawa. His most important accomplishment was that of being a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a highly honorable, exemplary Christian gentleman who was adored by his family, loved by his friends and respected by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Gladys â�œMissieâ₝ McCrary Jones of Mt. Pleasant, TX; two sons, David Jones and wife, Sandy of Omaha TX and Steven Jones and wife Belinda of Jessieville, AR; three daughters, Cathy Walker of Atlanta, GA, Barbara Evans of Fort Smith, AR, and Linda Jones of Naples, TX; one brother, Charles Jones and wife Marilyn of Owassa,OK; four grand-daughters, Stephanie Cortez of Frisco, TX, Monica Mathie of Dallas, TX, Susan Walker and Emily Walker of St. Louis, MO, and Lacey Tillman of Savannah, GA; one grandson, Ryan Jones of Centerton, AR; one step-grandson, Jason Evans of El Dorado, AR. and eight great-grandchildren.
