George Byrd, 74, of Saratoga, Arkansas, passed away Friday, May 31, 2019 in Little Rock, AR. He was born on January 5, 1945 in Haleyville, AL. George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Daisy Byrd; two brothers, Robert and Matt Byrd; one sister, Lucille Taylor. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Sue Byrd, of Saratoga; daughters and sons-in-law,Leah and Jamie Roberts of Genoa, AR, and Ginger and Grady McCorkle of Little Rock; grandchildren, Chris and Diana Byrd-Roberts of Alexander, AR, Andrew and Amanda Roberts of Little Rock, Megan Roberts of Genoa, and Lana McCorkle of Little Rock; great-grandchildren, Coleman and Connor Byrd-Roberts of Alexander; brother, Leetis Byrd of Bertrand, MO; sister, Lenora Goza of Sikeston, MO; sister, Willie Young of New Madrid, MO; and a number of nieces and nephews.George was a master carpenter who spent most of his career building beautiful homes for families across Missouri and Arkansas. An avid hunter and fisherman for many years, he fell in love with Millwood Lake and the serene outdoors of Saratoga. He owned and operated MillwoodSporting Goods in Saratoga until his retirement. Upon retirement, he spent many wonderful days in Foster Subdivision gardening and enjoying life with his family and his neighbors.When given a grim diagnosis of cancer, George responded by saying, "you've got to play the hand you're dealt." He courageously battled that merciless beast with strength and resolve. He was accompanied in fight by countless friends, skilled professionals at CARTI in Little Rock, and his family. George would want to thank his wife for her incredible care and fortitude during his journey. Because of the hand George played, his loved ones were gifted nine more precious months with him.Visitation will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Latimer Funeral Home in Nashville. Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Latimer Funeral Home in Nashville.
