Elton Turley passed peacefully from this life Wednesday, April 17, at his home surrounded by his loving family and faithful companion, Bitsey. He was born November 28, 1922 in Mineral Springs, AR to the late Edgar Boyd and Ada Smith Turley. He proudly served his country during WWII as a Marine in the First Armored Amphibian Battalion. He loved attending the yearly reunions with this group of men and had several close friends in the group. The last few he attended with his family, where he jokingly referred to himself as their hostage. He was a mechanic by trade, specialized in Diesel Motors and was a member of the Teamsters Union of Diesel Mechanics. After retiring from several different jobs, he established a business in Nashville where he was a long standing member of the community. He and wife Florence were longstanding member of the church of Christ in Mineral Springs. He always had a joy for life which included fishing, gardening and spending time with his family. He was considered by some a scholar of the Bible. He spent many hours reading and studying the Bible and any commentary or book relating to Biblical history he could find. He was always ready with a challenge. He was dedicated to education. He attended many classes pertaining to his trade and always encouraged his children, grandchildren, and friends to pursue education. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Herbert Turley Sr. of Nashville, AR. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Florence Floyd Hickey Turley; Daughters; Linda Turley Kline (Kenneth) of Perryville AR, Danna Turley Jones (Charles â�œChickenâ) of Murfreesboro AR, Terri Turley Byrd (Ron) of Nashville AR, Sandy Hickey Frick (Alexander) of Bogata TX, Son; Richard Hickey (Jayne Crisp) of Murfreesboro. Grandchildren Traci Jones of Murfreesboro, AR, Holly Jones Choate (Ryan) of Little Rock AR, Chris Gates of Mineral Springs AR, Samantha Schaal McCrary (James Paul) of Midland TX, Kayla Reeves McCarley (Mark) of Texarkana AR, Mandy Wilkes Kimery (Todd) of Murfreesboro AR, Matt Hickey of Murfreesboro AR, Kelly Byrd Taylor (Mike) of Batesville, and Lindsey Byrd Mitchell (Don Paul) of Emmett; 14 Great Grand Children; 1 Great Great Grandchild; three brothers, Charles Turley (Carol) of Texarkana, AR, Loy Turley (Billie) of Nashville, and Wylie Turley (Roxie) of Broken Bow, OK; and one sister, Jenn McCullough (Troy) of Hot Springs Village, AR. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Sunday, April 21, at the Mineral Springs Church of Christ with Robert Peek and Randy Hughes officiating, with burial to follow in Academy Cemetery in Nathan, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home in Nashville.
