Dr. James Richard Tommey

June 21, 1929 — November 1, 2018

Dr. James Richard "Dick" Tommey, age 89 passed away on November 1, 2018 in Nashville, Arkansas. He was born June 21, 1929 to the late America Ann Compton and William Robert Tommey. Dr. Tommey was a member of the First Baptist Church in Nashville where he served as a deacon and was a former Sunday school teacher. Dr. Tommey graduated from Murfreesboro High School. He joined the army and served in the Korean War. He graduated Kansas City Dental school in 1959, also was a lifetime member of the American Dental Association. He opened his own practice in 1960 in Lewisville and then moved his practice to Nashville in 1962 and retired in 2002. He was a former member of Rotary and diligently worked with Operations Christmas Child. He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Tommey; his brother William Dean Tommey; two sisters-in-law, Clara Tommey, Cogie Tommey; two brothers-in-law, Larry Hall, and Jim Sweatman. Survivors include; one daughter Ann Hilliard and husband David of Nashville, AR; five grandchildren Taylor Hilliard and Amy Jackson , Brittany Hilliard, and Peyton Hilliard, Raegan Erskine all of Nashville, AR; one brother, Dr. C.E. Tommey of El Dorado, AR; one sister, Patsy Ann Hall Johnston and husband Alton of Corpus Christi, TX; one sister-in-law Patricia Sweatman of Mobile, AL; a number of nieces and nephews as well as two special ladies that were considered family, Cheryl Power and Cathy Jordan. Visitation will be 1:30 to service time at First Baptist Church in Nashville. Funeral services will be 2:30 Sunday, November 4, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Nashville with Bro. David Blase and Kevin Sartin officiating. Burial will follow at Rest land Cemetery under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home in Nashville. Pallbearers will be Jeff Jordan, Don Fletcher, Ed McCrary, Bev Jordan, Hubert Hardin, Granville Parnell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dale Henry, Bill Blakley, Charlie Hubbard, Alton Johnston, In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Operation Christmas Child.
