Dr. Robert Ronald Sykes died in his home on October 15, 2014. He was born in Hot Springs, AR, on November 11, 1943 and graduated from Cabot High School. He graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in 1966, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1971, and served as a Captain in the Army from 1971 - 1974. He was a deacon of First Baptist Church, sang in the church choir, taught a prophecy class and volunteered at the Howard County Christian Clinic. He was preceded in death by his father Harry Sykes and his mother Dorothy Bales Sykes, sisters Angie Johnson, Pat Revere, Jean Hope and a twin brother Dr. James Sykes. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Sandra Sykes, daughter Karen Sykes, son Timothy Sykes, grandson Dylan Sykes, sister Jo Chesser, brother Worthy Sykes (Barbara) and numerous family and friends. He was a traditional family man of God whose intellectual capabilities didn't heed him from connecting with people. He continually gave to his family, his church and the community. He loved to share his food creations with friends and family any chance he could get and no one ever left the Sykes' home without feeling his hospitality. He was a very kind soul and cared for every single one of his relatives even his in-laws. We will all miss Dr. Bob Sykes (Dylan's thoughts). He will be missed dearly and his positive, generous spirit will be carried on for-ever within each one of us. Services will be on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Nashville. Family statement : "We would like to thank the community for all the prayers and well wishes we have received this week. Our father was an original in every way. He was kind, hardworking, and always gave of himself to the fullest. We will take with us his spirit and keep it alive in all that we do for the rest of our lives. That is the best gift he has given to all of us. We love you Dad always and forever " Karen & Tim Sykes You may send an online sympathy message at www.latimerfuneralhome.com To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Dr. Robert Ronald Sykes please visit our Sympathy Store.
