Dortha Mildred "Dottie" Floyd

April 16, 1924 — July 29, 2010

Dortha Mildred Rhodes Floyd âœDottieâ₝ to most who know her, was born April 16, 1924 near Delight, AR. She was the oldest child of Nolus Emily Young and Uther Crystal Rhodes. She was a graduate of Nashville High School, class of 1942. Dottie was married to Granville J. Floyd, Jr., M.D. from 1942 until his death in 1971. She later married W.K. Pickett, who preceded her in death in 1987. She was also preceded in death by her beloved sister Juanice Day. Dottie is survived by three sons, Richard Rhodes and his wife, Nancy, of Fort Worth, TX, Michael Granville and his wife, Sarita, Mark Alexander M.D. and his wife Jane, all of Murfreesboro, and a brother, Buddy Rhodes of Gurdon. Seven grandchildren have grown to adulthood uniquely influenced by the love and grace of a true lady that was their grandmother; Randy, Chelise, Monique, Crystal, Alan, Alex, and Karoline. Dottie was also happily a great-grandmother of six and one on the way. Dottie, like many of whom are now referred to as the âœ greatest generationâ₝ , gave her time and talents to this community and her church. Her love and devotion to the life of her family will continue in positive ways through the lives of we who loved her. Her service includes President of the Parent Teachers Association, President of the Hospital Auxiliary, President of the Pike County Heritage Club and chairwoman of its committee to publish the book Early History of Pike County, AR (1978). She was very proud, as well, to have been the chairwoman of the committee to open a public library in Murfreesboro. Dottie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro and was honored to serve on its Administrative Board for many years. She also gave of herself to various committees, including the planning of the new church and parsonage buildings. She taught Sunday School Kindergarten for eight years and continued to teach on other levels for many years. Her Christian faith was at the core of the deep spirituality that she strove to make the center of all she was as a human being. We will miss her. Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 31, at United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, interment in Murfreesboro Cemetery, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Murfreesboro. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Murfreesboro Branch Library, 210 2nd Avenue, Murfreesboro, AR 71958 870-285-2575; Murfreesboro School Library, 605 3rd Avenue, Murfreesboro, AR 71958 870-285-2201; or United Methodist Church of Murfreesboro.
