Don Smedley

Don Smedley, age 72, of Murfreesboro, AR, died on Sunday, June 19, 2011 in Murfreesboro. He was born on April 27, 1939 in Murfreesboro, the son of the late Coleman and Kathryn (Fugitt) Smedley. He was a retired system operator for Garland Power and Light Co., was an army veteran, and member of the First Baptist Church in Murfreesboro. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smedley was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Mae Bateman Smedley; and one daughter, Jeana Lynn Smedley. He is survived by two sons, Michael Smedley of Sachse, TX; and Johnie Smedley of Murfreesboro, AR; one daughter by choice, Penny Robinson of Rowlett, TX; one granddaughter, Chelsea Wright of Murfreesboro, and one grandson, Brandon Smedley of Pasadena, TX; extended family, Lakota Hoover of Murfreesboro, and Lisa Wright of Hot Springs; one sister, Sue Ford of Murfreesboro; his mother-in-law, Willie Mae Bateman of Murfreesboro; five nieces; and two nephews. He was loved by many great friends and family. Services will be Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Murfreesboro with Bro. Lee Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Japany Cemetery in Murfreesboro under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Murfreesboro. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the First Baptist Church building fund.
