Dewey Glen Hipp

July 21, 1933 — March 24, 2023

Mineral Springs

Dewey Glen Hipp, 89, passed away on March 24, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born on July 21, 1933 in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, the youngest son of the late Howard Hipp and Juanita Hill. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gene Hipp.

He served his country through the United States Army from 1952 to 1961. He spent time in Manheim, Germany from December of 1953 to November of 1955. He was a member of second armed division of the Hell on Wheels artillery squadron and then served as a culinary specialist for his unit.

He was a third generation Arkansas Water Well Driller and owner of Hipp Water Well Drilling Company. He drilled approximately 8,000 wells all over southwest Arkansas in his over 60 years in business, retiring at the age of 87.

Dewey was a member of Liberty Baptist Church of Nashville, Ark. and was known throughout his community as one who went above and beyond to help those in need. He loved to attend community functions and church events and socialize with his friends and family. He and his wife Janie enjoyed traveling around the world; his favorite trip was for their 40th wedding anniversary to visit the Holy Land.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janie McCorkle Hipp, and his children, Russell Hipp and his wife Sherri, of Mineral Springs, Ark., Glenda Hipp Graves and her husband Shawn of Fayetteville, Ark., Becky Brown and her husband Bobby of Texarkana, Ark. Other survivors include grandchildren Morgan Sanchez, Jessica Murphy, Katelyn Hipp, Ashlyn Hipp, Madeline Graves, Tucker Graves and Bobby Hester, as well as five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Jo Golden and brother Jerry Hill.

Dewey enjoyed excellent health for most of his life, considering his work as his hobby. He was bush hogging and riding his backhoe and bulldozer to care for his farm right up until he suffered his first stroke in November of 2022. After a second, more serious stroke, in December of 2022, he made the move to Fayetteville for rehabilitation and then to live with his daughter’s family.

He worked diligently to return to his former abilities, charming all of his therapy team along the way at Encompass Fayetteville and UAMS Outpatient Therapy. His goal was always to return to the farm and continue to go on pump calls with his son and brother. He, along with his family, made the choice to return home to the family farm after his third stroke on March 16. His therapy team visited him before he left, commenting that they had never seen anyone with more strength and determination and will to live a full life than Dewey Hipp.

Memorials may be made to the Outpatient Therapy Clinic in Fayetteville, 1125 N. College Ave., Fayetteville, AR 72703.
