Charlie Leo Puryear, age 97, of Nashville, AR, died Thursday, February 04, 2010 at Mine Creek Healthcare, in Nashville. He was born November 18, 1912 in Bingen, Arkansas, the son of the late Tom and Sallie Shields Puryear. He was a lifelong member of Bingen First United Methodist Church and served as a Steward in the church. He served in the Arkansas National Guard and the 63rd Coastal Defense Artillery of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a past member of the American Legion and the VFW and served on the Bingen Cemetery Board of Directors. He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years Virginia Nell Chesshir Puryear; 2brothers Elton and wife Fanny Puryear, Vachel and wife Bill Puryear; 2 sisters Ruthleen and husband Jimmy Martin, and Mattie Turley. Survivors include his two sons Milton Puryear of Nashville, Frank Puryear of Nashville; brother-in-law Charles Turley of Texarkana, AR; sister-in-law Evelyn Jamison of Nashville; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 06, 2010 at Latimer Funeral Home in Nashville with burial in Ozan Cemetery, in Bingen.
