Evelyn Cay Carlton Teague died peacefully at her family’s home on May 11, 2024. She was born October 27, 1939, to the late Brice Carlton and Louise Phillips Carlton Clemens. She was preceded in death by her husband Herschell Ray Teague and siblings Corky Carlton, Annette Hoover and Elizabeth Atha. Her sister Judy Moss Hill survives her.
Cay is the mother of two sons, Larry Teague (Debbie) and David Teague (Helen Gaudin). She is the adored grandmother of Larry Teague Jr (Tana), Shelly Teague, Luke Teague (Layne Setash) and John Teague (Shannon Caietti). She is the fantastic great grandmother of Chloe and Cara Teague, Carter Teague, and Henry David Teague.
She grew up in Nashville, Arkansas, and lived most of her life in Nashville. She was a National Merit Scholar. She remained close to many of her high school classmates throughout the years. She was a registered nurse and worked for decades ministering to the health care needs of this community in the doctor’s office, the hospital, a nursing home, and the Christian healthcare community clinic. Her phone never quit ringing with folks needing help, and she never quit answering.
She was a long-time member of Nashville First United Methodist Church, where she served in virtually every capacity and assisted its pastors for over 60 years. The church’s wellbeing and welcoming spirit drove her to remain active and faithful.
She engaged in the life of her community, the lives of her friends, and especially the lives of her family. She helped establish the Christian healthcare clinic when many local people had no access to healthcare. she was named Woman of the year by the Chamber of Commerce. She spent quality time with friends of seven decades. She celebrated important events in the lives of her children and grandchildren, and she was a steady, loving and guiding force in their lives.
Gifts may be made in her memory to her beloved church, Nashville First United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church in Nashville.
Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church in Nashville with Rev. Gary Harrison and Rev. Daniel Kirkpatrick officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home of Nashville.
