Ben Smith

Ben Smith, 85, of Dierks, Arkansas passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by a family that loved him very much July 9, 2013. He was born on March 4, 1928 in Newhope, AR, the son of the late Robert Donald Smith and Myrtle Octavia (Bolland) Smith. On May 13, 1950 he married the love of his life Louise Smith, and spent the happiest 63 years of his life by her side. Ben loved three things more than any in this world; God, family, and gardening, and he lovingly devoted the 85 years he was given on Earth to each. Ben was retired from Weyerhaeuser, and was a life-long member of Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church in New Hope, where he was born and raised. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kimmel Smith and Joe Dean Bolland. He is survived by his wife Louise, his daughter, Ramona Mascarenas and husband Jimmy of New Hope, and two sons, Mike Smith and wife Teresa of Texarkana, and Alan Smith and wife Laura of De Queen; as well as nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, who he adored and loved to spend time with, and a special lifelong friend Clell Smalling of Canton, TX. Funeral Services will be held at Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church in New Hope at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 11, 2013 with Bro. Kenny Fant officiating. Burial to follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Nashville.
