Abram Ross Wylie III, 67, of Little Rock, died Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Baptist Hospital. He was born June 4, 1947 at Carthage, AR, the son of the late James and Clora Alice Wood Wylie. Ross grew up in Murfreesboro where he graduated from Murfreesboro High School in 1965. He was a member of the 1964 Rattler District 7B champion football team and a John Phillip Sousa Award winner with the band. Ross attended Southern State College and the University of Arkansas, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and he remained an avid Razorback fan all his life. He was a veteran of the US Army with service in Vietnam with the Americal Division. Ross spent his engineering career in bridge design with the Arkansas State Highway Transportation Department in Little Rock, retiring in 2007. Most notably his designs included the "high" bridges on I-49 between Alma and Fayetteville better known as Wylie Ravine. On August 11, 1974 Ross married Vicki Camille Miller of Murfreesboro, who preceded him in death in 2005. He is survived by his son, Abram Ross Wylie IV, daughter-in-law, Keli and grandson, Abram (Abe) Ross Wylie V all of Little Rock; brothers, Jimmy Wylie (Mandy) of Sumter, SC, David Wylie (Carolyn) of Hot Springs, Steve Wylie (Linda) of Sherwood; a sister, Dolly Johnson (Sam) of Murfreesboro, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Center Point Cemetery in Center Point, AR with Brother James Wainscott officiating under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Murfreesboro. Visitation will be on Thursday from 12:00 PM until 1:30 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro.
